How some teens view Ramadhan by Showkotali

How some Youth view Ramadhan

Another Ramdhan enters
And for some people nothing much has changed
They wake up for sehri
Stuff their faces and back to bed ASAP

Wake up at 12ish
Switch on the Hi Fi with the loud music blasting
Sing along to their favourite tunes
And maybe bust a few moves
To wake themselves up from sleep

Go downstairs and watch the TV
Any music show, Bollywood film or action flick
Will do the trick
And help to pass the hours
Until its time to eat and devour a big iftar

Forget the news or documentaries
Iraq and Afghanistan so depressing and dreary

Maghrib Azan is made on TV and on the walky talky
Time to eat
Been praying in my mind for this moment
No bismillah or thanks to Allah
For the food we have been blessed with
Mum bought it from the local halal grocery
And the Tesco's down the road

Yummy! The delicacies taste lovely on an empty stomach
Eat your fill like there is no tomorrow
Where's the tea and jelabbiy
The parents pray maghrib
But the kids are still eating

Appreciation for the chef
With the belching and wind
Time for a nap
All this eating can be tiring

Put on some soft sensual Bollywood tunes
And hit the bed
And pretend to be oblivious and dead to the world around

Wake up after a few hours
Everyone is getting ready for terrawih
20 rakahs and 1 and half hours
Of sheer pain and sweat
Aint for me man
I got things to do

Log onto the internet
Visit my fav sites
Where I chill and flirt with my online mates
Discuss stupidity and silly things like
Have you ever loved and lost
Is it necessary to love someone
http://www.qmbsoc.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=4.0
Don't believe me
Then check out this stupidity above
By people

Most of whom are Muslims
But we are modern 21st century Muslims

We got Muslim names
We know where we are from
Adam and eve
Not Adam and Steve
We're not that lost honest

The house feels like a morgue
Dads at the masjid with the old fogeys
Ex gangsters and bad boys
Now reformed characters since they hit 50
Mums at her friends doing her prayers

I'm all alone
Oh woe is me
Put on the music on the PC
Chat to my mates and respond to useless discussions on the net

Does the above describe you or people you know?
Used to be me once upon a time
Until Allah opened my eyes to the truth
Now I'm happy like never before

As Allah swt says in the Quran "Verily in the remembrance of Allah do
hearts find contentment"

An Article from a Muslimah (May Allah Bless Her)

Assalamu alaikum,

Here is an extract from an excellent lecture "How to get Best out of Ramadan", by my very respectable teacher.

I really wanted to share the whole lecture with you, but I was quite busy in some urgent family matters.

Please do read the following tips & prepare yourself for Ibaadah & worship in this Blessed month of Ramadan..

TIPS:

1. Clean up the time:

a) Telephone: Try to minimize your chat on the telephone. If you are used to chat with your friends on a regular basis, try to make it short. Share with her the importance of this month & tell her that you want to devote yourself for Ibaadah in order to get the maximum reward in this month. Try to share with her these tips.

b) Cooking: Try to cook something simple during Ramadan as this is a month of Ibaadah & Quraan, not a month of food. There are some husbands who push their wifes to cook different varieties of food & sisters have to spend their time in the kitchen. If its very necessary, keep a tape of Quraan in the kitchen & listen to it while you are busy in Kitchen, or keep your toungue moist with the Zikr. [Try to find out some short cut & tips to prepare the food quickly]

C) Shopping: Try to get all your shopping done before Ramadan. Make a list of the things/grocery/ items, that is enough for one month & buy it all together.

Important: Try to do the Eid shopping NOW. The last ten days of Ramadan when we have to be doing more Ibaadah & spend our time in doing good deeds, most of the muslims are busy in doing shopping for Eid & their kids.
Sisters! These ten days, we has to exaggerate ourself in doing more ibaadah & to catch Laila-ul_qadr. Try to make this Ramadan a very different from all the previous ramadaans.

D) Dinner Party/Iftaar: Iftaar parties during ramadan are getting very common now. This is the Month for you sisters. we have the rest of the full year to do parties & to get socialize. Indeed its a great reward to break someone's fast but try to give food to people who are needy & poor. The prophet Sallalahu alaihi wasallam said,
“Whoever gives food to a fasting person with which to break his fast, will have a reward equal to his, without it detracting in the slightest from the reward of the fasting person.” (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 3/171; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/451).

E) Sleeping: Cut less the time of sleep during this month. Its a month of Ibaadha, doing good deeds. Who knows this could be our last ramadan. try to reduce your sleeping hours. Its only one month & then you can get back to your normal routine.

F) Computer & Internet: this is my personal request.I am spending lot of time on the internet, though visiting Islamic sites & checking & sending emails. Try to spend less time on the internet.

Now when we have cleaned up a big amount of time, lets schedule it for Ibaadhah.

1) Fard: Pray the Obligatory salah on time with Khushoo. Get yourself ready as soon as the salah comes in. Make duaa to Allah to give you Khushoo. & try to get rid of all the thoughts & waswaas that comes in the mind. Think of that you are standing infront of your LORD the Almighty.

2) Sunnah: If you are already praying the 12 sunnah, continue them & add the 2 rak'ah of sunnah after Zuhr. [making them 14 altogether].
The prophet Sallalahu alaihi wasallam said,
“Whoever maintain 4 rak'ah before Zuhr & 4 rak'ah after zuhr, Allah will make the fire Haram on that person" [Ibn-Majah]

4 rak'ah before Asr: The prophet Sallalahu alaihi wasallam said,
“may Allah have mercy on him who prays 4 rak'ah before Asr". [Tirmidi]

Salah Al-Duha: Increase the no. of Rak'ah if you are already in a habit of praying salah al-Duha.

3) Qur'aan: Ramadaan is the month of Quraan. Try to schedule it all the moments you have. If you are working, try to keep a pocket size Quraan with you & read it whenever you get the time, like, coffee break, lunch break, etc

Try to read with reflection. Read slowly in a beautiful voice & reflect on its meaning. Try to read this time, with translation & tafseer.

3) Traweeh & Qiyaam-ul-lail: Try to read the traweeh in the mosque where the Imaam is doing long Qiyaam.

4) Tahajjud: Try to get up little earlier to pray 2 rak'ah & make duaa. Its the best time for making duaa & accepntance of duaa.

5) Du'aa: Write all the duaa you want to make for yourself, your children, family or any duaa that you want to make. Each day try to focus on duaa, & keep on repeating it throughout the day & at times when the duaa is accepted. Make duaa to Allah to give you Ikhlaas, khushoo, make duaa that you catch lailat-ul-Qadr. make duaa for the whole Ummah.
[repeat the duaa that are important to you, during the last ten days of Ramadan]

6) Zikr: Select one zikr for a day & focus on it daily, reflecting on its meaning & thinking about its reward. [ get the Duaa book "Hisn-ul-muslim for any store]

7) Charity: Try to give as much charity as you can, as the reward gets more during the month of ramadan. Give food to the poor & needy people & help those in need.

8) Last 10 days: Double & triple the amount of Ibaadah you are doing during the last ten days of Ramadan. Sleep less & worship more.. pray as much as you can & make a lot of duaa.

sisters! let us get ready to make this ramadaan a very different than all the previous ramadan. do as much as you can & inshaAllah Allah will help you. ameen

Do remember me in your Duaa.
Please note, that this is only an extract of tips from the lecture. the original lecture was excellent.

May Allah accept my work, & purify my intentions
jazakum Allahu khairan

Ramadhan Speech 1427/2006

In the Name of Almighty Allah the Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Assalamualaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu
Al-Hamdu Lillaahi Rabbil 'Aalameen was-Salaatuwas-Salaamu 'alaa Ashrafil Anbiyaa'e wal Mursaleen.
Allah-hummah Barik lana fie Rajab wa Sha'baan Wa Baliegna Ramadan
"Oo see kum Ibad'allah Bi Taqwa'llah"

Wa Ba'd:
1 Oh, my brothers and sisters in Islam, this evening we welcome Ramadhan Al-Mubarak once again. Ramadhan is the holy month whereby the Holy Quran was sent down by Allah to mankind through Muhammed S.A.W. This day, all the Satan has been locked up therefore, we, as Muslims can perform ALL of our ibadah(prayers) in peace and we should make full use of this month for the Prophet Of Allah S.A.W has said:
"I only curse 3 types of people; Rasulullah S.A.W. said, "I only curse 3 types of people;
a. Those people who do not look after their parents when they are in old age.
b. Those people who do not take full advantage of the blessed month of Ramadhan.
c. Those people who don not say, 'Salallahu -Alayhay- -Wa-Aalahay Wasallam' when my name is mentioned."

Think about it, how many of us have been cursed by Allah's messenger.

2 My siblings, this Ramadhan should be better than the previous one and it should be our best for we know not if we are going to see Ramadhan again next year. If we see this month again, it should be better the previous years'. Follow the Prophet S.A.W's way of doing things and respect your elders and treat them the way they deserved. Show sympathy for the poor and needy and help them in all the ways you can. Make this the best time for you to strike off your evil attitudes and improve for the better. Do things that will give you Hasanah such as what Allah's Servant, Umar Farooq, has suggested:

a. Give a copy of Quran to someone and each time they read from it,you
will gain hasanaat .
b. Donate a wheel chair to a hospital and each time a sick person uses
it, you will gain hasanaat.
c. Participate in the building of a mosque.
d. Help in educating a child.
e. Teach someone to recite a dua. With each recitation, you will gain
hasanaat.
f. Share a dua or Quran CD.
g. Share constructive reading material with someone.
h. Place a water
cooler in a public place.
i. Plant a tree. Each time any person or an animal sits under its
shade or eats from the tree, you will gain hasanaat.

Do remember to pay Zakah (Give Alms) for the heads of families and for those receiving it praise Allah and never forget him.

3 Also, never forget to say your intentions (niat) the night before you fast or you can choose to niat for the whole month to be safe. The fast of the next day will not be accepted if you do not niat.

4 Ramadhan is also a good time to do all your Sunah(non-mandatory) prayers as all sinners will be given 7 times the usual rate. Prayers in Ramadhan including the sunnahs are Fardhu Maghrib, Sunnah Ba'diyah Maghrib, Sunnah Qabliyah Ishak, Fardu Ishak, Sunnah Ba'diyah Ishak, Sunnah Tahajjud, Sunnah Fajr, Fardhu Fajr, Sunnah Dhuha, Sunnah Qabliyah Zohr, Fardhu Zohr, Sunnah Ba'diyah Zohr, Sunnah Asr, Fardhu Asr. There, your day ends. Also, do not forget your Sadaqah(donations), Quran recitement, Witir(late night sunnah prayers) and also Tarawih(long prayers after Ishak conducted by mosques although can be done alone)

5 May this be the best Ramadhan you ever had and may Allah bless you.
