Hidaya Foundation - Relief Activities for Disaster in Bangladesh

Cyclone Sidr devastated Southern Bangladesh with winds of over 150mph and a 16 foot tidal wave. The number of dead has reached over 3,500, though the toll could be significantly higher. Millions more have been rendered homeless; thousands of villages have been ravaged, leaving homes and crops totally destroyed. Poor farmers neither have money for next year's crop/harvest preparations or household expenses, nor do they have any resources to repair and rebuild their homes. Millions of people are at high risk of starvation and disease.

Hidaya Foundation's ( Response:
Short-Term Relief activities:
In the initial stages, food packages are being arranged for distribution to help families for the weeks ahead. It costs $25 to feed a family of four for approx. two week.

Long Term Rehabilitation plans:
Hidaya Foundation's main goal is to help rehabilitate farmers who have lost their crops. As such, Hidaya intends to support deserving farmers through the distribution of seeds so that they can restore their livelihood. It costs $75 to help a farmer prepare for next year's harvest.
